Case Study: Southwest Art Invitational

Connecting magazine readers, art collectors, and professional artists in a global world, during a pandemic.

For this project, I designed and built 30+ pages using WordPress and UX builder, including the main landing page.  I helped to organize artist images, bios, and assets which I uploaded to each artist’s portfolio.  I collaborated with our Ad Sales team as the main stakeholders and representatives of 33 visual artists.  I also consulted with our webmaster and one developer to resolve tech issues a few times throughout the project.

The Problem

SWA has a beautiful print magazine and functional website. The challenge here was to use all of the available resources to showcase our artists and the magazine’ brand’. I wanted to make sure that this temporary online event was special.  I hoped to also encourage brand recognition for the SWA Magazine.

The Solution

Because of technical limitations on the brand’s platform, I created a micro-site within our sister site.  Through this solution, I had to come up with a morphed and updated design system that meshed with current site settings.  I designed a SWA-specific navigational menu and coordinating elements including buttons, text, and more.

The Results

The Southwest Art Invitational features 30+ artists in the form of a “digital art fair.”  Through marketing efforts, the pages, emails, and campaign has had 306,000+ impressions.  We’ve had engagement from over 46K people.  All in all, we’ve helped artists reach their goal and extend their talents to the world.
